Home Credit
Accelerating integrations and improving Developer Experience through API modernization

Home Credit is one of the leading providers of consumer financing in the Czech Republic. As a key market player, the company continuously innovates its services to deliver the best possible experience not only to end customers but also to B2B partners, particularly in the e-commerce sector. In a rapidly evolving and competitive market, Home Credit decided to strengthen its technological foundation and prepare its payment API for the future.

Home Credit had a functional payment API that allowed partners to offer installment sales. However, with growing competition and rising demands for speed and simplicity, it became clear that a working API alone was not enough. A strategic modernization was needed to make integrations faster, simpler, and more developer-friendly.
The integration process was often lengthy due to fragmented documentation and the absence of modern developer tools. Compared to modern BNPL providers, the Developer Experience felt more complex and less attractive. What was also missing was a clear strategic perspective on which changes would deliver the greatest market impact.
- Lengthy integrations due to fragmented documentation and missing tools
- Lower Developer Experience compared to BNPL competitors
- Lack of a clear strategy for API modernization
We approached the challenge holistically – from a technical audit to a concrete modernization roadmap. First, we conducted a detailed analysis of the existing REST API, evaluated it against modern architectural principles, and benchmarked integration processes of key competitors. We also simulated the onboarding process from the perspective of an external developer to uncover documentation gaps and testing hurdles.
Based on these findings, we created a prioritized development plan focused on high-impact areas. This included building a centralized Developer Portal with unified documentation and sandbox, developing SDKs and plugins for the most common e-commerce platforms, designing next-generation front-end tools (e.g., installment calculator) with modern design and accessibility, and optimizing core API processes such as authentication and error handling.
- Technical audit of the API and competitive benchmarking
- Proposal of Developer Portal, SDKs, and plugins
- Prioritized roadmap for modernization and higher adoption
