Magento set the ceiling on how fast GymBeam could grow
GymBeam has sold sports nutrition and health food online since 2014, to customers from first-time buyers to bodybuilders. The shop is the business. It has to carry everyday orders and the peaks when demand spikes.
The Magento setup could not keep up. It slowed the response to market changes and struggled under heavier traffic, and the project record links that to lost sales, unhappy customers and a higher risk of errors. The internal team had no experience with the modern frontend technologies a rebuild would need.

The rebuild could not stop the shop

We rebuilt the core, the frontend and the infrastructure side by side
We designed a microfrontend architecture on Next.js with server-side rendering, using Module Federation to split the storefront into parts that teams develop and deploy on their own. A dedicated frontend team joined to build it while the existing shop kept trading.
In parallel we wrote the infrastructure the new platform needed as code: Kubernetes, Docker and Kustomize for deployment, Grafana and Prometheus for monitoring, with audit logging. The application core was rewritten at the same time, and milestones landed on the agreed schedule.
Each part of the storefront ships on its own
Module Federation gave the frontend a modular basis. A change in one part is built and deployed without a release of the whole shop.
Infrastructure written as code, not clicked together
Deployment, monitoring and audit logging live in versioned configuration. The platform can be rebuilt and scaled from that code rather than from memory.
The platform carries Black Friday, and GymBeam’s own team carries the platform
GymBeam received a rewritten application core, a microfrontend architecture, a monitored Kubernetes infrastructure and the frontend team that put them in place. The platform handles the load peaks of Black Friday.
We then handed the code to GymBeam’s internal team, which develops the platform today.
