Fit and responsibility

Choose the problem before the service.

What exactly does Techmates do?

We take responsibility for the part of IT that is costing a company time, money or control. That can mean putting an interim IT leader in place, mapping a process, building an AI agent or delivering custom software. We begin by finding who owns the decision, how work runs today and what result would make the work worthwhile. Then the people who designed the plan stay close enough to delivery to be accountable for the result.

Who are your services for?

Interim leadership is for owner-led companies where IT has no clear owner, a technical leader has left or a supplier has failed. Process mapping and AI work fit companies that can see repeated manual work but do not yet have a reliable brief. Custom development also stands on its own, so a company with its own CTO or a funded product team can bring us a bounded product or system to build. We will say early when the situation needs a different kind of partner.

Do we need to know which service we need?

No. Bring the situation, not a package name. In the first conversation we separate the immediate symptom from the underlying constraint and decide whether the next useful step is leadership, a process map, an automation or a software build. Sometimes the right answer is to stabilise an existing supplier or remove a process step rather than commission new software.

Do you provide interim IT and AI leadership?

Yes. An interim leader can join within a month, from one or two days a week to full-time depending on the mandate. The work usually lasts six to twelve months: long enough to make ownership, suppliers, priorities and delivery visible, but with a defined end. The engagement closes with a handover to your permanent leader or internal team, including the decisions, routines and documentation they need to continue.

What does working together look like?

We first map the current situation: the people making decisions, the process, the systems, the suppliers and the cost of the problem. Together we define one accountable owner, a small set of outcomes and the order of work. Delivery then runs in visible milestones with regular decisions from your side, rather than a long build followed by a reveal. Every engagement ends with an accepted output and a clear owner for what happens next.

Delivery and outcomes

The work should keep paying off after we leave.

How do we know whether AI is right for our company?

Start with work that repeats, consumes measurable time and follows decisions that can be explained. We check the process, the available data, the acceptable error rate and the person who will own the result in operation. Where a rule, integration or script is enough, we do not use an expensive model. Where AI is appropriate, we define a baseline and one use case that can be tested before anything broader is approved.

What business result can AI transformation create?

The useful result is not the presence of an AI tool. It is a shorter task, fewer avoidable errors, more capacity or a decision made with better evidence. Before building, we choose the measure and record the current baseline; after release, we compare the same measure and include the cost of operating the solution. If the improvement does not justify the next step, we stop instead of widening the project.

Do you build custom software as well?

Yes. We design and build web and mobile applications, internal systems, integrations and digital products. Analysis happens before the contract so the proposal names the scope, dependencies and first milestone. After signing, the team can start within a week. A milestone is one month: you see finished work, accept it and pay for that result before the next milestone continues.

Can you take over an existing system and deal with technical debt?

Yes. We first make the system observable and safe to change: access, backups, deployments, dependencies, incidents and the parts of the code that carry the most business risk. That produces a prioritised plan separating urgent stabilisation from changes that can wait. We then modernise in small releases around live operation, preserving useful parts instead of assuming a rewrite. The first goal is control; new architecture comes only where it removes a demonstrated constraint.

Do you provide long-term technical support?

Yes, where the system needs ongoing monitoring, infrastructure management, incident response or a delivery team after launch. We agree service ownership, response expectations and the boundary between our team and yours before support starts. We also document the system and mentor internal people so support does not create dependence. An interim leadership mandate still ends with a handover even when a separate engineering or operations service continues.

Time, technology and risk

Technology follows the constraint.

How quickly can the work start?

It depends on the first useful outcome. An interim leader can start within a month. Mapping one department takes two to three weeks; a complete order-to-cash flow takes four to eight weeks. A first working AI automation can be live in two to four weeks, after which you decide whether to continue. Custom development starts within a week of signing once the analysis is complete and then moves in one-month milestones.

How much do your services cost?

We do not force different situations into a public package. The proposal follows the mandate, the people required, the dependencies and the first result you can accept. Before work begins, you receive a defined scope, timetable, responsibilities and commercial structure, including what would change the estimate. For custom development, analysis precedes the contract and each one-month milestone is accepted before the next one continues.

Which technologies do you work with?

We choose the stack around the system you already have, the skills your team can support and the constraints on security and operation. Our current work includes TypeScript and Node.js, React and Next.js, Python, PHP, cloud platforms, containers and Kubernetes, plus the integration and model tooling needed for AI systems. A familiar, maintainable tool is preferable to a newer one that leaves your team dependent on us.

How do you approach architecture and growth?

We design for the next known constraint, not an imagined company ten times the size. A well-structured monolith can be the right answer; separate services earn their place only when ownership, deployment or load requires them. The baseline includes automated tests and deployments, observable operation, documented interfaces and infrastructure that can be reproduced. Capacity is tested against real traffic and failure scenarios before complexity is added.

How do you protect sensitive data when implementing AI?

Security starts with the data and who is allowed to use it. We classify the information, minimise what reaches a model, restrict access, encrypt data in transit and at rest, and keep audit records for important actions. Model and hosting choices follow the sensitivity of the use case; private cloud or on-premise operation remains an option where the constraint requires it. We also define retention, human review and what the system must never decide on its own before launch.

How do you reduce the risk of a large IT or AI project?

We make the first commitment small enough to inspect. Dependencies, data quality, ownership and acceptance criteria are made visible before a broad build, and each milestone has a decision to continue, change direction or stop. New work is introduced around live operation rather than through one irreversible launch. The person accountable on your side sees the same plan, evidence and unresolved risks as our team throughout delivery.

Did your situation not fit one of these answers?
